CRUDE ENTANGLEMENT
In the nearby city of Gaucin, a hilly collection of whitewashed buildings surrounded by forest, one’s view of the forest from the city is idealized and picturesque. The view of the forest from this existing hotel, is quite different - it produces an entangled view of nature. If these two conditions exist in opposition to one another, the picturesque and the entangled, we are interested in the crude intermingling of the two and the glitches which occur at the boundaries between and intersections of building and forest. At times the proposed architecture almost seems to disappear into the forest, or at appears to stand in opposition to it: ultimately the project vacillates between the two.
